What is Spatial Fitness?
Spatial Fitness is a new fitness category Villa created. It uses your camera and spatial intelligence to understand how you move. No headset, no equipment, no setup. Just your body, your music, and a workout that responds to you. We built the term because nothing else described the magic you experience with Villa.
What is a Microdose?
A Microdose is Villa's unit of real movement, about 15 minutes of activity. It's rooted in metabolic science (METs), the same framework used by the WHO and every modern fitness device. We named it a Microdose because it's the opposite of an hour-long workout you'll skip. It's small enough to actually do.
Do I really only need 7 doses a week?
Yes. Short, frequent movement beats occasional long sessions for cardiovascular health, mood, and long-term fitness. Seven microdoses aligns with what the World Health Organization recommends — the amount of weekly movement associated with up to a 40% reduction in mortality. Villa can supplement other routines you have, but if Villa is your main thing, seven is the number.
How much physical space do I need to play?
About 4 feet in any direction - enough to throw a punch, take a step, or swing a racket without bumping into furniture. Your living room, hotel room, office, or bedroom all work.
What is Aura?
Aura is the technology that powers Villa. It understands how you move through your camera. That means your posture, your gestures, your effort. Aura then adapts every session to you in real time. It's what makes Villa feel like it actually understands you.
Can I use my own music?
Yes. Bring your own music and playlists or pick from a Villa Mixtape. In the menu you'll see an option for your music sitting right next to our curated mixes.
What does Villa do with my camera feed?
Aura processes your movement on your device in real time, it can understand body landmarks data-points and how they move, not images of you. For Alpha users, we collect movement data and game events to improve the product. Video capture is optional and can be toggled on or off in the menu at any time.
What movement data does Villa collect?
Villa tracks how you've moved over time — sessions completed, Microdoses earned, activities played, and effort levels. This data powers your progress and helps us improve the product. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
What if I have an injury or physical limitation?
Villa involves real physical movement, so please consult your doctor if you have concerns. You can find more detail in our Terms and Conditions.
I'm having trouble — how do I get help?
Reach out to hi@villa.live and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
The camera isn't picking me up. What now?
Most likely you're standing in front of a window that's too bright, or there isn't enough light in the room. Adjust your position so you're not backlit, and make sure there's some ambient light. If the problem persists, reach out to hi@villa.live.
Friends & Family Play Testers
I didn't get the email to download.
You should have received an email from noreply@villamoves.com. Check your Promotions folder if you use Gmail — sometimes it gets stuck in there. If you're still not seeing it, send a note to Micah@villa.live and he'll get you sorted.
Walk me through onboarding.
When you open Villa for the first time you're prompted to log in with the email we sent the download to. You'll receive a magic link to that email to complete the login process. From there you will:
- Enable your camera
- Allow recording for test sessions (you can toggle this off later)
- Back up into your playspace (no need for that pesky keyboard anymore)
- Hold your hand out towards the screen and pinch with your thumb and index finger to set volume
- Show a double peace sign to open the menu, and do it again to close it
Congrats! Like we said — so natural you already know how to use it.
What should I play first?
The first time you play Villa, go to the Activities tab and play Tennis. Don't be shy — take full steps right and left to reach the ball. The harder you swing, the harder you hit the ball. After playing for a bit, try changing the music for a different experience.
What do the bars on screen mean?
On the right you'll see Effort — the more you move, the higher the effort zone you'll reach. On the left you'll see the Microdose Meter, filled directly by the effort you're putting in. Once you fill the Microdose Meter, you've gotten all the movement science says you need in a day.
How can I reach out to Villa?
Text back to the number we've been texting you from, or feel free to reach out to Micah@villa.live.
I'm stuck on a screen and can't get out of it!
If this happens the F3 key is your best friend. Also a 3 or 4 finger swipe on the trackpad, then Force Quit in the Apple menu, will also get the job done.
The game feels like it's slow, like it's lagging or crashing.
If the game feels like it is slowing down or getting choppy, turn off the screen recording feature. Sometimes that can get in the way of smooth gameplay based on your laptop. Also be sure to close any other applications using a lot of energy on your device while running Villa.
